No tax increase for Middlesboro

City tax rates will not increase for Middlesboro citizens this year. The Middlesboro City Council voted on Tuesday to approve the first reading of an ordinance to keep the tax rate on personal and real property at the same rate at which it has remained for the past several years.

Every third post office in county at risk of closing

Eight post offices in Harlan County are facing possible closing. The Postal Service recently announced they will be conducting studies of 3,653 retail offices nationwide in an effort "to determine customer needs and optimize their retail network." Offices on the list being considered for closing will undergo review in the coming months.
