Yah, the "Voters" are so afraid of a 0.50 tax increase that they will compromise their care and they care of others. Real smart Voters.

They are very intelligent voters!!!!! It's obvious they didn't buy into the fear mongering such as "compromise their care" and "family's lives at stake" type political babble that some LESA supporters have been pressing onto people. The results tell it all 1876 to 3479. That is called a butt kicking. LESA was a dream that will NEVER become a reality.

Now, lets move on from LifeCare and bring on the new privately ran (tax free) ambulance. I want to keep my .50 cents, thank you very much.

Well stated 'Excellent'. The people have spoken, rejecting both initiatives. The kingdom building egos of a select group, the fear mongering, the arrogance of Owens et al and the idea that government is ALWAYS the answer along with throwing more tax dollars at any problem were all SOUNDLY rejected by the astute, reasonable and rational voting public. It is significant that the initiative to bypass TABOR was also soundly rejected. Taxpayers and voters simply are not going to sign a blank check to the Authority or any other agency. Maybe, just maybe; Owens, the Commissioners and others will realize WHO ultimately has the power and WILL ultimately run the show. If the Authority, had it passed; was operated like their campaign initiatives were one can just imagine how emergency services would have been managed.

Then, as a privately run ambulance service, they retain the right to charge any fee that they deem necessary to pick people up, as it is a privately run business and owes no one in Sterling anything, with the exception of their own pocketbooks, as they are the only ambulance service in the city and have a comfortable monopoly...what are you going to do? Demand lower prices? That would not be your right to do so.
They could also choose to shut down and it would be a ludicrous business decision by anyone with any business savvy to come to a town that doesn't offer enough business to present a profit. So, with private business being the way to go, I hope those that have life threatening medical issues can either drive themselves to the hospital or just be able to accept the fact that it is nobodies responsibility to get you there, but your own.

I didn't compromise my care or care of others, I simply feel there is a better way to go about this EMS issue with out throwing the local economy into further debt. I didn't feel right as a voter to give an "Authority" the right to decide how my tax dollars were spent with out approval from the tax payers of this city and county. I didn’t feel right about handing over equipment to an “Authority” that the tax payers have already paid for.
Now we can kick the LESA pipe dream to the curb and start working on a viable solution that is in the best interest of the people who fund it.

"Kingdom building"? "Fear mongering"? "Arrogance of Owens"? "Throwing tax dollars"? "POWER"?
Wow! really, thats just shameful.. no better yet I'll use a big word IGNORANCE! Yes I would bash on the people that are trying to strengthen the health and wellbeing of sterling residents. I would love for people to throw my money around for such a good and warrented cause. Instead post uneducated blogs and call people out for trying to strengthen the frontline and provide outstanding care for my family. So sad..but way to go on flexing you muscles!!! Boy you really showed us!
You win. Hope that you don't ever have to reep what you have sewn.

Good for you voters!!! This changes nothing, Life care is still done, and should be. Now you have created a community that can't afford EMS. I can say that imcomptant EMS is WORSE than no EMS!! I'd rather go with a new ambulance service than one that has shown to be incompetant and reckless in the past. Those are two words that I don't want anywhere near my health and wellbeing but most of all my family!!! Strong vote!

Oh Ruth,

There MUST be EMS, it's the law. So the county will have to spend some money to do it. No, it shouldn't be Life Care but a seperate County enterprise zone. Become informed, and not be so incometant and reckless yourself.

"Incometant"?
I'm sorry did I say that we wouldn't have EMS? Na I didn't think so, but unfortunatly no matter how you look at it you get what you pay for and by declining the tax increase you have severly impeaded your ability to get the quality of EMS that you desirve. and reckless? oaky that just makes you sound.... COMPETANT? And informed I am. I don't think that anyone is ignorant for wanting the best frontline care that is out there.

<quoted text>
Well, your right, by law the county must also provide k-12 education and maintain the roads. Now "from Sterling" how do you suppose they do that? Taxes mabe? You have benefited your whole life from these services. Now because you don't want a measly 5 cent tax the future of Sterling's EMS is on the line. You see Dougy he's out.... what does that leave us, what does that leave our families. This is a bad example of voting gone wrong. When Dougy gets arrested by the Feds or slips out under the cover of dark it is us that will pay, big time. Jusy ask Sidney Neb about his exit out of town, just ask.

Like it or not the LESA board met for almost a year, every week when Doug showed the first signs of floundering. It was his behavior and trying to secretly seel his business tha prompted the reveiw. The board went over every aspect of the proposal.

To me this stance is just selfish, I want my cake and eat it too.

That leaves the rest of out of an EMS service. Go ahead and gloat, dance about and call names to the people who spent their OWN time trying to help the community. Doug's actions are what started this ball rolling. He initially thought that this was the right plan and a good direction to go in for the community. He also thought that he was going to be the EMS director at 80 grand a year. When it was deemed that he would not be a good fit he started his propagande.

I respect you views, but I just don't think that the voters put enough time into researching it. All they saw was a 5 cent tax.

What's your plan?

We still wouldn't have enough out of that tax to pay a decent company for EMS. They wanted a new bigger building...The county doesn't pay worth a crap for deputy's, the city doesn't pay worth a crap for officers, why would a company even want to come here, let alone a good one. Besides that, you'll be taken to Sterling Med Center, its all scary, either one will do you in. And who would want to come live here and drink our water anyway.

Well "So Entitled" you and your people should have known for a long time that this was NOT the way to go..It was youuuu people who wouldn't change anything to make it good for everyone, "so they could have their cake and eat it too" you say. Maybe you should spread your 5 cents around to everyone who can't afford anymore because their plate is full enough! Typical Sterling high society, constantly bickering because of their own selfishness. Go cry on someones shoulder at the country club..

The fighting needs to stop. Its completely pointless given that Life Care is done anyway.

I'll say it again... who is willing to step up and volunteer to be on the committee that now has 45 days to try and figure out how to run an EMS service with no money.

Dont forget, the commissioners had to turn down over 3 million dollars worth of requests in the new budget because there wasnt money to cover it.

So, for those of you who think you're so damned smart and have a better idea than what was proposed -- STEP UP and volunteer!!!

This issue is more important now than it has ever been. Life Care has 57 days left (if they last that long). If nobody steps up to put in a bunch of damn work in the next few weeks, y'all better mapquest Sterling Regional MedCenter.

Huh?????? That 5 cents means a lot for our family too... both financially and we want the best for our family. Now what?? I think you have me pegged wrong, No high society country club livin' here just good folk with limited resources wanting the best for our kids. It seems that people couldn't see throught the thought of "added taxes" or "big Government" to get to the real point. That's all. the 5 cents means a lot to us too.

Really??? Since when did this become about country clubs and high society, seems like you have some some insecurities of your own that you need to deal with and bolg elsewhere because here is the deal it has nothing to do with anything other than 57 days!!! if that. All right big boy your so worried about the country club let hear what your intellegent idea is! Come on let it rip!!! So sad that you think that a strong frontline ems service is some high society way of blowing your 5 cents..... well I think you've said it all. I'm gonna go eat my potpie and sit in my rocking chair on the porch, cause guess what where I live and what I do for a living doesn't make me any less desirving of good EMS. So sad that all you seem to be worried about is money and not the health and wellbeing of Sterling.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Cancer

Hold it! You need to approach things in a calm, controlled manner today otherwise you're likely to get yourself into a state in no time at all. That's especially likely if you're trying to meet a deadline because you'll start to panic and then become all fingers and thumbs. You might also get extremely ratty with anyone who gets in your way or asks stupid questions. Come on, is that fair?
