A one-time announcement of special events is a free service provided by the Witness to Florida Baptist churches.

The board on Thursday pulled the plug on a fact-finding mission designed to help the determine whether to close two of three northern Marion County elementary schools.

Officials say that after picking up three passengers at a local motel and driving them to Hog Valley early Sunday morning, a Dan The Taxi Man taxi driver was robbed and beaten, and his taxi was stolen.

The drive was started in the wake of the School Board's decision to explore closing Fessenden, which is one of Florida's oldest schools.

The School Board is taking a more serious look at three northern Marion County elementary schools - Fessenden, Sparr and Anthony - as sites that possibly could be closed to save money in these dire financial times.
