Sanford murder trial jury begins deliberation

Richard Swanson would have turned 50 on April 12. Instead, he was killed on Aug. 14, 1980, at the age of 16. "He was barely 16, a nice kid, a good kid...until Andrew Sanford stole that from him," Trish Kelliher of the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office said during her closing statement Thursday of the Sanford murder trial. "And for what? Seven-hundred and some bucks."

Marina employee rescues seven from overturned boat

A Ski Run Marina employee pulled seven people out of Lake Tahoe on Saturday, including one trapped under an overturned rental boat, after the vessel took in water and rolled over about a mile off shore. Nine people were onboard at the time of the incident, which occurred around 2 p.m., according to witnesses.
