On Feb. 9, 2007, Mike Bubnash was driving home from visiting a friend in Canton when his car left the road and hit a telephone pole.

I am curious to know what part, if any, did drugs or alcohol play in this accident. Why did his car leave the road?? I would like to know the whole truth here. I suspect that this accident was Mike's own fault.

What difference does it make? You show no sympathy - does it matter if he was at fault or the car was at fault or the roadways. You make assumptions that it was his fault.

Good luck Mike in your rehab.

You sound like an insurance company defense attorney. Maybe he was swerving to avoid your big bullying SUV.

Hey, Curious!! I'm sure if any driving impairment charges were warranted they would have been applied. And "inquiring minds??" like you wouldn't have to post on-line stupidity.

Good luck to the family!!!

I drive an SUV and don't consider myself a bully. I was in a rear-end accident and I wanted something that would protect me and make me feel safe. Does that make me a bad person?

Only if you earned that SUV by being an insurance company defense attorney who denies treatment and housing to a victim by claiming that the injuries were the victim's own fault.

I hope you were not seriously injured in your accident and I hope you got the medical treatment you needed, regardless of who was at fault.

Amazing....I was only wondering and asked the question. For those of you that jumped to your own conclusions, I am senior citizen, retired from 40 years in medicine who has seen way too many of cases like this where it turns out to be the victims own fault. How quickly you all assume that I'm the bad guy!

Perhaps other Boy Scout Troops will help out with fundraisers too! I wish mike and his family the best.Insurance companies need some sort of reform because all too often people slip through the cracks and dont recieve the care the need and deserve.

You missed the entire point of the story. Instead of the usual doom and gloom that the Courant leans toward, this is a story about a community coming together in support of a good kid. You instead took the "glass half empty" view of making sure that we all knew that the accident was someone's fault. For a presumably educated person, you sure seem to have a narrow view of things.

Perhaps, but that is the reality of the situation. I'm sorry if it offends anybody, but teen drinking and driving is on the rise and programs are being presented
(!MPACT) designed to bring the reality of these types of tragedies to the forefront to educate young people to the devastating effects that drinking and driving have on a family and a community. No, it is not a touchy feely kind of a subject, but parents of children that have been killed in these types of accidents share their stories in the hopes that even one child will be saved. What has happened here is a tragedy, but the "why" is just as important.

Prayers and thoughts for you and yours for the journey ahead. Keep Faith and Hope on the front burner and seek advise from others who are going through this same type of injury. God Bless and Get Well Soon Mike. Patience is a guide for healing. I have a nephew who has been going through simular imjuries but without health insurance. It took a toll on them and they sent him to nursing home, family fought the system and he has been home for 2 yrs. From Coma PVS and paralisis to no feeding tube, no trayc, and no meds, progressing to feeding himself and now he just got his own laptop computer for comunication. God works in Mysterious ways and touches everyone on the journey to recovery. Never lose Hope and Faith. God Bless everyone involved and give strength and patience. Bio Feedback helped my nephew alot. Mike you are added to my daily Prayers.

"I suspect that this accident was Mike's own fault."

Even if it was his fault you can't help but feel bad because everyone makes mistakes. I think it is irrelevant if it was his fault because the article was about a community supporting this kid no matter who was or wasn't at fault.

Interesting. Would the treatment plan be the same whether it was Mike's fault or not?

No, I didn't earn it that way. I will tell you however that the insurance company did its best to find ways not to pay for treatment. They will need to pay for the rest of my life. I have never seen a company who brags about how it wants to help people become so devious. Lesson learned!

What a good story about a generous town. I've been following Mike's story because I have a granddaughter (22)in similar circumstances from an accident on 12/3/07. She was not the driver and there was absolutely no alcohol involved on her part or the driver's part. Someone hit them on the passenger side. In the big scheme of things it is irrelevant to the families & friends who love these kids (& adults) and are doing everything they can to help them on the long journey to recovery. I only hope that "curious" and people with these negative thoughts never have to deal with like circumstances, it's not fun. Keep good thoughts and prayers for all TBI patients.
