This is great! Many of today's Navajo people don't know how to butcher the traditional way. They only know meat is bought at the Supermarket (where they have butcher shops too). So many are lost to know. So I think this program is good teaching for children and adults alike.

The only way to learn begins at home.
I was taught at home not from anybody else. The best teachers are my parents & grandparents. |

Ick! This is sick, why put that on the front page for everyone to see. Its great they are teaching their young how to do all this, but personally I, and I'm sure many other people don't want to see sheep intestines on the front page. Kinda disgusted by it!
LOL! Watch out Navajo People - PETA will be after you.... |
Well, maybe the BEST way to learn is at home ~ but, it's not the ONLY way! I can't teach my kids traditions I know nothing about and none of my in-laws seem interested to teach them. I have never heard of this; but, my kids are going to the next one!!! WHAT A GREAT THING!!!! Farmington Girl...get over it LOL! I grew up on a farm ~ that's nothing! lol |
Get used to it! Don't look if it makes you sick. |
Farmington Girl, how much different is it from showing pictures of accident scenes where people are dead (and in some there is blood)! It may sound and look gross, but it is the real thing! This is life for some people, just like life is for you at the mall! At least this is positive for our people, an attempt to pass on teachings to our young people.
Give her a break...if you haven't seen it, it can be shocking. lol And, this is really a great thing! I'm sorry we missed it!!! |
i was put through the ringer by my inlaws .....my wifes autie and dad talked navajo and i had to rope and butcher the sheep and cook it....i got a c- accrding to my wife...
I wish I knew about this, do you know what organization put this on?
LOL....Mine tried to! They asked me, if I wanted to help butcher sheep. I told them, "Not really. But, if you need help castrating them ~ give me a call." Their mouths just dropped open...they didn't know I was a farm girl. I've had enough butchering. Besides castrating sheep is nothing! Good job on the C...I'm jealous! I think my fry bread "stretching" got a D- LOL Actually, I thought you were Navajo? Do you mind telling what ethnic background you have? |
Think about the condition that the cows, chickens and so forth were raised in, next time you consume a restaurant or store bought meat. At least these animals were raised in open land, and not crowded into very small spaces... |
This is great! Teaching our children the Navajo Way-Ke' is important to the survival of the Navajo Culture.

im dine....100%

I can butcher with a KFC spork.
And you can't speak Navajo? My husband can barely speak it and he's is FBI.(or Female Body Inspector) I've heard it both ways. Anyways, We've learned all the important words! Now, I'm interested in the roping part. Are you an NDN-Cowboy? My favorite! |
Really, that is equally impressive ~ cause a spork is very unpredictable! Using one is like waiting for a balloon to pop...you just don't know when the dang thing is going to snap or where pieces will fly...but, you know it will!!!! I can't take the pressure! |

I thought the article was very cool. Teaching the traditional ways. Then I started reading the posts this morning (can't sleep). Now I can't sleep and I'm giggling. Between the to heck with butchering and I'll help you castrate instead and the Harry the KFC butcherer. Well a little bit of news and back to bed won't be happening.
Firefly I had wondered if those may have been your children. I guess next year yours will be there thpugh. |

Well...did you see what time I was posting?!?!!?! How can someone be so dang tired and not be able to fall asleep? Let's start a thread on that!!!! My huband and I both commented that the girl (Lenaye) looks just like our oldest daughter when she was 8! It was incredible. They're probably cousin-sisters or something. lol I am notorious for not keeping track of what's going on...but, if I somehow know about it, we will be there! |
Getting turned on are we? Sounds like you want to hook up w/ponee! Might work since you NDN cowboys. |
