Big Mike wrote: Intelligent people like these are the future of our country. Scary isn't it? What makes her unintelligent? She's a fricking HERO! If men had babies it was be a trophy moment. She was at WORK, idiot. Most, if not all, jobs don't give you time off before the baby comes--you work up to the minute the baby comes and THEN the maternity leave kicks in. Plus being far away from a hospital, what would you have had her do? Think it through, Big Mike.

Way to go Amanda! Damn straight we want people like her to be our future. She's courageous, smart, and resourceful. There is a reason men are not allowed to have babies. Well....make that many reasons.

"..jobs don't you take time off.." Well, not exactly true. You're allowed up to 12 weeks for things like that, in theory. In practice, well, they don't have to pay you for that time off, and they "find ways" to make it difficult for you to take that time off. I don't know her situation, but it sounds like she sure had a quick delivery. Just glad things worked out okay for them.

I was just wondering...When she left work, and Picked her husband up, How come HE didn't drive to the hospital? Maybe that was what Big Mike was talking about. Unintellegent....meaning the husband, not having enough intellengence to offer to drive ,when the woman was clearly in labor!! DUH!!

Women Are Intelligent: Hmmm...if you read the article, it states that her husband has seizures, so he cannot drive.

Unintellegent....meaning the husband, not having enough intellengence to offer to drive ,when the woman was clearly in labor!! DUH!! The article mentions that the husband has a seizure disorder, which means he probably does not have a drivers license. In the state of Minnesota (as in most, if not all states) people who have seizure disorders have to be seizure-free for a certain amount of time before they can regain their license. Some people with seizure disorders may never get a license (or lose their license permanently if they ever had one). When you apply for a license you're required to tell the DMV if you have something like a seizure disorder. So, no, the husband couldn't (and shouldn't) have driven them, but obviously the wife shouldn't have either. Sure, they may not have reached the hospital any faster if they had called 911, but they would have exponentially reduced the risk of getting themselves, or other people on the road killed. While I'm glad this story had a happy ending, it sounds like the wife shouldn't really have her license either. Driving while giving birth? That has to be considered reckless!

The husband doesn't drive because he has seizures. He did help steer the car to the hospital entrance. Tsk tsk.

Your Not Paying Attention wrote: Nice dialogue about the "husband" and "wife". The article never refers to them as such. And wake up; this is North Minneapolis, first child together but third child for each. This is just the sort of plain old-fashioned illegitimacy that is ruining our country. The comments referring to the "husband" and "wife" are stupid. This took place in northern Minnesota, not North Minneapolis, dummy. And, I am assuming because of the location, they were white.

Joseph Phillips ran into the North Country Regional Hospital emergency room early Wednesday morning calling for help because his newborn son was in the car with his mother. Well written.. why was Josephs mother with the baby, and why didn't SHE drive?
