Smithsonian Returning Excavated Shishmaref Human Remains
The Smithsonian is returning human remains to Shishmaref that were excavated over 80 years ago by a fur trader.A The native villages of Gambell and Savoonga will receive 72 funerary objects that date to the great famine of the late 1870s.

Savoonga Men Cited For Ivory Sale Violations

Savoonga men cited for sale of animal parts
Federal prosecutors have cited 10 St. Lawrence Island villagers for the illegal sale of raw walrus ivory and polar bear hides, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
