KINCHELOE - Raquel McClendon of Kincheloe Michigan was named first runner up in the 2009 Miss Michigan USA pageant held this past weekend September 19 & 20 in Port Huron Michigan. This is a truly remarkable achievement for this young lady who is only 19 and just about landed the coveted title her first time competing at that level. Most of the title holders have competed several times, learning new skills along the way before they actually make it. “I am very proud to have represented Kincheloe at this statewide competition” said Raquel. “I would like to thank all of my sponsors for contributing to my pageant fund. Without them it would have been difficult to make it here. Most of all I would like to thank my Mom, Pauline McClendon and my Dad, Tom McClendon, for helping me make my dreams come true. Also thank you to all of my friends and family who came down to Port Huron to support me in the competition”. Raquel intends to compete again next year and by all accounts, has a very good chance at bringing home the Crown.

A total of 58 participants from around the state competed in this pageant from the ages of 18 to 26. Lindsey Tycholiz, 26, of Sterling Heights, won the Miss Michigan USA Pageant and will now compete in the Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas, which will air on NBC on April 9. If for any reason Lindsey cannot fulfill her duties, as first runner up Raquel will be required to carry on the responsibilities of Miss Michigan USA.
