I don't understand what was this arrest about. If someone has healthy dogs on a chain is that cruelty. What about keeping a dog inside the house in a small crate? It happens every day with a large amount of dog owners, for "their own benefit". Maybe it is time to ban these dog cages. Too many people have been targeted lately for being cruel to animals. This campaign has gone on too far and needs to stop.

It's really for the dogs' benefit. Most dogs feel safe in a small, confined area because they are den creatures. It also helps the chewing, destroying and potty training factors as well. It's by no means cruel. Chains around dogs' necks is cruel. Not sure how you cannot see that. Did you see the dogs eyes, very, very sad, but tails still wagging.

$100 bail?!? What kind of BS is that??? We need to pressure out lawmakers to raise the penalty for this kind of disgusting, cowardly crime. But I do like that people are starting to call the police in these dog-fighting crimes. If you suspect something - CALL THE POLICE!!!

My pit loves her crate. I can't keep her out of there. I have to close the bedroom door just so I can make her hang out with me in the living room. Those dogs were on very short chains with no food and water. Which would you prefer if you where a dog?

Where's that poster "Brookfield"? The one that says pit bull owners are not trash/thugs...and that there are SOOOO many of them that are college educated and upstanding citizens. The same one that tells me to just open my eyes and I will see all these great pit bull owners. Where is this clown? Why is he not commenting on this one? This is exactly the type of person that fits the profile of most pit bull owners. Trash!

POS! Oh what a surprise, another case of animal cruelty and possible fighting

The law is too lax, we need stronger legislation and heavy fines for these abusers of animals. If not, the cycle will continue and probably escalate to the abuse of people.

Here's the funny part. Sauk Village has a full time animal control officer that was none the wiser that this was going on. Oh, but he isn't on call or doesn't work on weekends. And if it weren't for Cook County and the anonymous tip, this would have gone on for quite some time.

Additionally, they need to thoroughly check these grounds as I am sure they will find dog carcasses either buried on the grounds, or in nearby drainage ditches and small bodies of water in the area. People in Sauk Village walk around with pit bulls like they're giving them away, they are allowed to run at large, and are allowed to be walked by children that are no larger than the dog themselves.

Pull your head out and get real! He was arrested for dog fighting! Since you are defending this "slug," perhaps someone will put you on a short chain, leave you no food, and bring no water to you. How's that? If that's how you think, you need a lot of help!

What does the animal control officer have to do with something that happened in Lynwood?

A animal in a cage or on a chain is the same. These animals would be better off on a farm, where they could run and exercise, an not be tied up in a house or apartment building all day.

I think the chain or the cage can be bad but I see another side of it as well. I have 2 dogs, neither have ever been chained, but both are caged when we leave the house. I have a Siberian Husky that decided to eat a bottle of Aleve and she almost died. From that point on, she is caged when we leave. She will not get into anything when we are home but when we leave, she decides it's time to act like a fool. My dogs are caged for their own safety, not to be cruel. There is a big difference!

People don't realize that chains or cages can be good if used in moderation. The chains and cages are not meant to be prisons for these animals. When these animals are locked up and forgotten about, given no food or water, that's cruelty!!

Crating can be done responsibly but leaving a dog in a crate while one goes to work for 8 hours is cruel. Confinement should not exceed 3 hours at a time.

It makes me very unhappy to see all the hypocritical viewpoints here. I truly pray for this country in which the media controls the mind of so many unable to THINK OUT OF THE BOX. As far as pit bull owners being trash - the AMERICAN pit bull terrier was raised and housed by many presidents of this great country and others who respect the breed as one of the few which haven't been ruined by domestication of the canine family.
