Millsap ISD is up to bat, seemingly swinging like crazy to ask voters to pony up an additional 13 cents per $100 property value for the district's maintenance and operations tax.

By a narrow margin, Santo ISD voters rejected a tax ratification election, meaning cutbacks will follow until "there's a legislative change in the funding system," according to Superintendent Greg Gilbert, who said the current system pays SISD about $300 less per student than the state average.

A passenger was pronounced dead and the driver was taken by helicopter to a Metroplex hospital with a severe injury after an 18-wheeler wreck on Interstate 20 south of Santo Friday morning, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.
