No small rural post offices will be closed anytime soon in Cameron and Willacy counties, but hours of operation will be cut back at six small towns in the area, U.S. Post Office officials said Thursday.

U.S. authorities detained the Gulf Cartel's leader over Matamoros late last week - a third high-profile cartel arrest in recent weeks.

In the past two months, four Cameron County children have died while outside of parental supervision, creating a tragedy for the families and prompting police investigation, scrutiny by social services and public unease.
