"Bizantinismo" Wins First National Spanish Spelling Bee

Evelyn Juarez, a seventh grader from Santa Cruz, N.M., has won the first national Spanish spelling bee by correctly spelling the Spanish word "bizantinismo," which means excess luxury.

May 23, 1911: About 50 people were in Santa Fe Canyon yesterday fishing. Others went in automobiles as far as the Dalton switchbacks and regretted that the switchbacks have not been cleared of the small slides that obstruct the way although other vehicles have been to the top this spring.
