Are Local Dems Giving a "Chosen One" a Pass After Endorsement Of Uber Conservative Reep?
Talk to this small but vocal faction of local Democrats about the future of the party in central and north Orange County and one name above all others brings a sparkle to their eye and a smile to their face. Despite the fact the demographic makeup of the party in this geographical area is largely Latino the local elected that garners their excitement doesn’t have a Hispanic surname like Tinajero, Alvarez, Benevides or Martinez as one might expect. The “chosen one” for these folks is Anaheim Union High School District Trustee Jordan Brandman.
Many in this group make up the “Janny” faction of the DPOC, thus called this for their covert support for Latino bashing Supervisor Janet Nguyen. It is not shocking that they would pin the party’s hope for the future in Central/North OC on the shoulders of an Anglo politician. History shows us that many within the DPOC have a track record of opposing Latino politicians in the local area. Loretta Sanchez and Lou Correa did not gain any party support until the won their seat. To this day, much, if not all of Loretta and Lou’s success is in spite of the local party.

Chris Norby has launched his Clerk-Recorder campaign website
O.C. Supervisor Chris Norby has quietly launched his campaign website for the O.C. Clerk-Recorder’s office. It is not bad. And he already has a ton of endorsements, including a few Democrats, such as Santa Ana Mayor MIguel Pulido and Anaheim Union High School District Trustee Jordan Brandman. Now we know who in Orange County falls within John Lewis’ sphere of influence…Lewis is listed as the Chair of Norby’s campaign.
Norby makes the case that his political experience will make him a better clerk-recorder than anyone else. He goes out of his way, in the video above, to mention Tom Daly, the current Clerk-Recorder.
Norby has always been easy to get a hold of and that spirit continues on his website, where he lists his cell number and personal email address.

You can still buy and use a "safe and sane" fireworks in Santa Ana!
Say what you will about Latinos in Santa Ana, but understand this - they LOVE fireworks and celebrate the 4th of July with great abandon. Santa Ana is one of the few cities in Orange County that allows you to use “Safe and Sane” fireworks.
Of course they are only “Safe and Sane” if you use them in the proscribed manner. In the video above a bunch of Santa Ana kids are having a “fireworks war.” Not a good idea but it is not surprising either. All kids are pyros!
Click here to read the rest of this story.“Safe and sane” fireworks – the term for those that don’t fly or explode and are approved by the state fire marshal – will be sold from July 1-4 in Stanton, Buena Park, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa and Garden Grove,” according to the O.C. Register.

San Francisco cuts fire department budget, shouldn't Santa Ana cut more as well?
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to strip $6 million out of the department’s budget, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
By cutting $6 million from next year’s budget, the committee made good on a promise to reduce public safety funding to stem cuts to health and human services proposed by Mayor Gavin Newsom. And while the board’s liberal wing has been locked in a months long battle with the powerful firefighters union over anticipated public safety cuts, the supervisors only took one-quarter of the $24 million they had threatened to remove from the Fire Department’s budget earlier this month.
“In Santa Ana, a city of nearly 338,000, the Fire Department has chipped $2.7 million from its $54 million budget, pushing back training, holding vacant firefighting positions open and pulling firefighters from desk jobs and sending them back into the field,” according to the O.C. Register.

Santa Ana used affordable housing grants to relocate families
Santa Ana “City officials have begun meeting with private developers to talk about building as many as 200 homes on a swath of mostly empty land the city owns near downtown. They envision an entirely new neighborhood built on dozens of lots the city has bought and cleared over the past decade. The city paid nearly $18.5 million for those lots, records show, but will likely give at least some of them to the developers to keep the homes built there affordable,” according to the O.C. Register.
This action borders on the illegal.

Orange Tells Ware Disposal "You Stink!"
In what can be described as a victory for the Logan Neighborhood the city of Orange decided not to award Ware Disposal that city’s contract to for trash and recycling services. The city council decided to go with CR&R Waste Services over Ware and two other trash haulers including Waste Management who provides Santa Ana’s trash service.
As the Orange Juice’s Art Pedroza reported here yesterday, Ware went all out in their effort to win the Orange contract. They even went as far as taking out a full page ad in the Orange County Register calling on Orange residents to attend the council meeting to support them. Thankfully all of Ware’s efforts and Judy Ware’s filthy money didn’t sway the Orange officials.
CR&R was awarded the contract despite the fact that Ware’s “corrected” bid offered their monthly services for a lower monthly rate than all the other companies. CR&R’s bid calls for a monthly service fee of $10.87 while Ware’s “corrected” bid called for a $10.36 fee. Jay Ware claimed that, “This rate would result in Orange residents having the lowest rate in Orange County.”
