Firefighters are at the scene of a barn fire east of Sand Lake that reportedly involved 40-50 animals still inside the structure when the fire started.

Thursday morning started off as a great day for Sheri Kanouse of Sand Lake.; she slipped in a good work out, one of her favorite shows was playing in the background and her six kids were healthy.

Traffic on U.S. 131 north of Sand Lake will be tight for six months starting Monday as a nearly six-month, $15 million reconstruction project begins.

Multiple brush fires in Kent County and at least one in Newaygo County ignited Sunday afternoon within a short period of time, and likely were caused by high winds knocking down power lines, police said.
