The nations second largest school district and Martinez and Zimmer say they'll use the crisis to bring new ideas about education and community involvement to the table??...How about brainstorming the idea of teaching all your classed in English?...How about the idea of not allowing illegal alien children or the children of illegal aliens to attend school regardless of what the law states. Its obvious that these people are a burden to the system and do in fact appreciate and embrace a 50% Hispanic Drop Out rate. No one wise is telling them otherwise when they leave school and you can not deny that the drop out rate is REALLY, REALLY high...Huge waste of money just like the cost of incarcerating illegal aliens. Maybe LAUSD and the CA prison system should be combined under one roof?

The old ideas of education work, but you need an
educational climate that supports disciplining
students who misbehave ,and rewarding the
students who behave by fostering a positive
environment for learning. Schools need to have
the freedom to educate and discipline students
without feeling that they have to be law clerks,
or social service workers documenting every
action to protect themselves from litigation.
The board members for Los Angeles have a difficult
job,but one idea they should seriously consider
is instituting industrial education in secondary
school at every high school. Many students would
benefit from learning a trade,or skill and would
be able to easily see how math, science, and English
are important in understanding how to master that
trade.Every student is not going to choose to go to
college, and for the students and parents who make
that decision, the trade education would be another
way of preparing the student for a career, and
keeping the student focused on graduating from
high school. The key is that schools and parents
need more options than the LAUSD Choices program-
I'm not talking vouchers, but something along the line of charter schools where schools and parents
agree on the mission and purpose of the school.

I really hope that the new board members will push the Superintendent and senior staff to come up with a strategic plan for the district that is tied to prioirities and budget.
