College, career fair is Monday

Sallisaw High School invites all parents and students of Sequoyah County high schools as well as eighth graders and their parents from Brushy, Marble City, and Tommie Spear Middle Schools to the annual Career and College Fair from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Sallisaw High School commons area.

Bank robber pleads guilty

Sheldon J. Sperling, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, announced Thursday that Larry Eugene Walden, 57, of Stigler pleaded guilty to three counts of bank robbery, including the robbery at National Bank of Sallisaw on April 30.

Cervena Barva Press of W. Somerville, Massachusetts has recently released a new book titled "Pretty Little Lies, Ten Generations of Southern Hypocrisy" authored by W. R. Mayo involving Southern history with connections to the Sallisaw, Oklahoma area. Mayo is the grandson of the late W. D. Mayo of Sallisaw who was an early city pioneer,namesake for the W.D. Mayo Lock and Dam, and father of Wheeler Mayo founder of the Sequoyah County Times. The book spans three and a half centuries to the present with a wide cast of characters from the Sallisaw area.
