Henderson Driver Survives Rollover
A driver from Henderson Trucking survived a rollover and 77-foot slide while traveling 65 mph on Interstate 40 near Flagstaff, Ariz., after losing control of the vehicle.

Salem Community High School Enrollment Expected Down Slightly
The number of students at Salem Community High School is expected to be down slightly this year. Principal Brad Detering says enrollment will be around 844 students. The board adopted a new state law that will require bus drivers to walk to the back of their bus after each route and display a bus empty sign to assure no students are left on a bus. The board was told tuckpointing at three areas of concern on the high school building was complete. The work by Vollentine Construction of Springfield was completed at less than $30,000. That's $38,000 dollars underbid. The board agreed to continue additional tuckpointing work next summer.
Hucks Building Struck by Wayward Car
The Huck's Store at West Main and Missouri Avenue in Salem had an unwelcome new entranceway following an accident last Tuesday night.
Salem Police say a passenger in a car, 48-year-old Joseph Parker of East Alton, was attempting to move the vehicle away from the gas pumps to in front of the store when the accelerator stuck and crashed into a large ice chest in front of the building. The impact knocked the ice chest through a large glass window and knocking over several other machines inside the store. Police say Parker was not injured and there was no one in the store near the area of the crash.
