Dutch Fork Lake on road to recovery
Eight months after a ceremony marked the kickoff of the Dutch Fork Lake spillway restoration project, members of the Buffalo Creek Watershed Association were permitted to venture beyond the "no trespassing" sign to see what's now being done beside the dry lake bed.
Crews with the Joseph B. Fay Co. of Russellton, Pa., worked Monday to reduce a pier of the former Fort Steuben Bridge to the level at which it will serve as an observation deck for visitors to the Steubenville Marina.
Crews involved with the demolition of the Fort Steuben Bridge pulled the last piece of the span from the Ohio River Friday afternoon, but there's still more work ahead, said an official with the contractor for the $2.3 million project.
