Familiar names on the long list of hopefuls to replace Melton
It should surprise no one that the line of hopefuls wanting to unseat Mayor Frank Melton could stretch from the clerk's office inside City Hall to the President Street sidewalk.
The Tunica Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced a Delta Blues Tour set for Thursday May 8. This tour is being sponsored by Cline Tours, owned by John McCommon. via Blues Foundation News

Man sought by Sunflower Co. authorities in killing of estranged wife arrested
A man being sought by the Sunflower County Sheriff's Department in the killing of his estranged wife has been arrested.
Dennis Wayne Ferguson, of Drew, was in custody Saturday after a manhunt in the Ruleville area that started a day earlier.
Authorities believe Ferguson shot and killed Joellen E. Ferguson on Friday morning.

So thankful was civil rights pioneer Fannie Lou Hamer for the chances she got, she worked lifelong to ensure others would get them too.
She began by standing up for black Americans' voting rights at a time when harassment and intimidation were used to try to keep them away from the polls. She carried her torch for justice and equality all the way into national politics.
Coming from the humblest of beginnings only made Hamer that much more resolved to help others.
She was born a poor Mississippi sharecropper's daughter in 1916, the youngest of 20 children. Read more
