Allthough El Monte normally takes alot of flak from this paper, it is nice to see positive journalism for once. El Monte has an excellent Police Department and the hiring of one of it's premier officers as Police Chief for Baldwin Park P.D. should show it's system of excellence.

I've lived in El Monte all my life, and yes it's good to hear the police department has it under control. Not like the way it was when Santos shot and killed David Viera at the same spot Elaine was killed a couple of years ago. Hopefully they stays on top of things.

I DON'T MEAN TO SOUND LIKE I'M NOT GRATEFUL FOR THE EMPD, BUT IDK ABOUT ALL THE PRAISE YOU GUYS ARE GIVING THEM! I DO RECALL THE EVENING OF THE TNT SCARE. THERE WERE A LOT OF POLICE OFFICERS BLOCKING OFF ARDEN FROM VALLEY BLVD. TO GIDLEY ST. WHILE I WAS AT NICK'S PICKING UP AN ORDER FOR MY GRAMS, MOST OF THEM WERE STANDING AROUND BSing, WHEN REALLY THEY COULD HAVE BEEN OTHER PLACES DOING BETTER THINGS!!! JUST BECAUSE A LOT OF THINGS HAPPENED IN 48 HOURS DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE ON TOP OF THINGS. THERE WERE JUST A LOT OF THINGS THAT MADE HEADLINES!!! I'M STILL WAITING TO SEE ACTUAL WORK BEING DONE!!! ANYWAYS...THAT'S ALL FOR NOW!

I AM NOT A COP HATER AND I AM NOT UNGRATEFUL! I JUST DON'T THINK COPS SHOULD GET CUT SLACK WHEN THEY HAVE A GOOD DAY OR WEEK AS OPPOSED TO MANY BAD YEARS! I HAVE LIVED IN EL MONTE FOR THE MAJORITY OF MY LIFE AND HAVE SEEN FIRST HAND HOW SITUATIONS ARE HANDLED. YOU GUYS CAN THINK WHAT YOU WANT. I TRULY DO HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR POLICE. IF YOU GET INTO THAT LINE OF DUTY, YOU SHOULD KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO WORK HARD ESPECIALLY SINCE IT'S A "SERVING THE COMMUNITY" TYPE OF CAREER. ANYWAY, MY OPINIONS AND BELIEFS COME FROM FACT AND NOT THINGS I'VE HEARD, BUT WHAT I HAVE LIVED THROUGH AND WITNESSED...SO IF YOU GUYS DON'T AGREE WITH ME, THAT'S PERFECTLY FINE. JUST DON'T TEAR ME DOWN WITH YOUR OPINIONS EITHER BECAUSE THAT'S ALL THEY ARE: OPINIONS!!! IT'S CALLED FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

I'm sure after a few months on the streets as a police officer you would change your mind but for now you will remain a selfish sheltered little girl.

If El Monte PD was doing such a great job, they should have prevented these things from happening, not just taken care of the mess after the fact. I have only lived in El Monte for a few months, but I can honestly say that the officers I have come across are jerks. Of course, bearing in mind a majority of them have been rookie officers, they treat people badly, use bad language, and their chief simply uses the fact that they are rookies as an excuse.

Wouldn't it be nice if all crime could be prevented? If cops that you have come accross are jerks then it must be because they were arresting you? Cops are nice to me. I don't give them a reason to be a jerk.

Not that it's any of your business, but I have never been arrested. I simply do not support the extensive harassment imposed on the community by rookie El Monte officers. The police lieutenant himself told me their dept has received many complaints and the problem is that the rookie officers still need to learn that it is not necessary to mistreat civilians to gain respect for themselves, and that once they get a couple of years into it, they will learn that for themselves. However - their attitudes are inexcusable, and should not be justified simply because they are "rookies" of the dept.

You go RiCKSGiRL...That's what I am getting at! I know a couple of EMPD ROOKIES...I actually went to school with two of them. It's funny, even now one of them thinks he's "GOD" when we see him. It's a shame!!!

NO - I MEAN EVERYBODY.
LIKE SAD IN EM SAID, I AM SIMPLY VOICING MY OWN OPINIONS OF THE EL MONTE POLICE DEPT. SHOULD YOU FEEL DIFFERENTLY, GOOD FOR YOU! SIMPLY BECAUSE I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE WAY THEIR OFFICERS INTERACT WITH THE PUBLIC DOES NOT MEAN I, MYSELF OR ANYBODY IN MY FAMILY ARE GANGSTERS OR POSERS. I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT POLICE OFFICERS FROM ANY OTHER CITIES EXCEPT EL MONTE.

IT IS A SHAME BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO SAY I HAVE RESPECT FOR THE POLICE OFFICERS "PROTECTING" THE CITY I LIVE IN. I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY ROOKIE OFFICERS THEY HAVE ON THE DEPT. BUT I'M BETTING THE ONES YOU WENT TO SCHOOL WITH ARE PROBABLY THE ONES I AM REFERRING TO.

People I know this is off topic but we need help in saving the little anminal that was set on fire in lancaster----------

I am worried that the animal control will adhear to policy and destroy that little fellow after 8 days. Heres another thought : If in fact they plan to stay on policy and the animal is doomed, what kind of care is the little guy getting being he is to be killed. Even Carl Chestman got exellent care up till the time they executed him as with all condemed prisnors. Maybe the bloggers should e-mail the supervisors office to see what is going to happen to the puppy. by going to the supervisors office it ensures proper care and may spare the animals life. Heres his rep in the area:
