New shelter seeks aides

San Pedro's new animal shelter is looking to set up a nonprofit volunteer and support group.

The Dept already set up a nonprofit support group called SALA. It was already done. People can donate and just ear mark the funds for the Harbor shelter. This was all researched in 2005 and set up in 2006. No need to set up yet another support group.

This is an excellant idea. I know that the shelters have used vollunteers in the past, and that helps in keeping the costs down for the weekend shifts especially.. Hope more shelters and agencies get on board with this idea..

Incidentally, I got that info from the article, all the way at the bottom. You can recheck it for more info. I hope you do volunteer, they need your help!

Thanks Donna for putting the word out about the meeting on the blog. We went, we saw, we signed up, and we are going to our first training session later in August. It was very nice to see many people come out and be willing to help. The new shelter looks really great. Hopefully, more people will sign up to become volunteers!
