Northeast Ohio districts among state's highest-scorers on state tests, but region...
A few Northeast Ohio districts placed near the top of Ohio's performance ranking on today's state report cards for the 2013-14. But the region dominated the bottom of that list with the Cleveland school district and several suburbs scoring poorly on state tests.

The Common Core improves the critical thinking skills of students, Rocky River parent Susan Gallagher and Bay Village curriculum director Char Shryock told an Ohio House committee recently in hearings on the multi-state educational standards. "Common Core is a step in the right direction for Ohio's students and families," said Gallagher, a former trustee of the Rocky River Education Association.

The former Lakewood High School band director, who lost his job after being accused of sexual battery, told authorities that he picked up a 16-year-old boy June 10 and spent the day with him having sex, showering together and seeing a movie. After the movie, Nathan Harris said, he and the youth drove to the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks and parked near the Lorain Bridge about 10:20 p.m. There, he said, he and the youth had sex again.

Fairview officials closely monitor fire district study's project manager process
The possibility of forming a regionalized fire district continues to elicit concern from Mayor Eileen Patton and Fire Chief Tony Raffin. Westlake, Bay Village, Rocky River and Fairview Park city councils passed resolutions months ago to accept a $100,000 state grant for use in hiring a project manager to gauge the feasibility of forming a fire district.

Lakewood reaches agreement with Ohio EPA to reduce sewer overflows
