The threat of a Zebra Mussel infestation in one or more lakes in Berkshire County has been known to local and state officials for at least three years so that the discovery of the scourge at Laurel Lake in Lee should not have surprised them.

State police say a Pittsfield man has died in a motorcycle crash in Richmond. Police say the Harley-Davidson operated by 44-year-old Todd Stanton went off Swamp Road and struck some trees at about 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
