<![CDATA[Kohler Co. is one of three Wisconsin companies named recenlty as a semifinalist for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the department's highest honor for employers that providesupport to their Guard and Reserve employees. There are 138 semifinalists nationwide selected from 2,899 nominated by a Guard or Reserve employee. The other two Wisconsin semifinalists are the St Croix County Sheriff's Office in Hudson and UPI Manufacturing in Eagle. Finalists will be announced in May. Sartori Cheese recognized family-owned and -operated Patron Dairy Producers recently for providing the highest quality milk and cheese yield. Each producer is located within 50 miles 50 miles of Sartori's Plymouth plant. Gold Medal Best Quality Milk awards were handed out to the following farms: Kracht Family Farm, Hillside Dairy, Nick Van Gheem Farms, Jacque Dairy Farm, Otto Farms, Daniel Meyer, Grunwald Family Dairy, Tommy and Tammy Andersen, Country Aire Farms, Theisen Family Farm, Morning Star Dairy Farm, Fischer & Clark Dairy, and Majestic Crossing Dairy. Yield quality awards were given to Morning Star Dairy Farm, Sam Bontrager, Majestic Crossing Dairy, Grunwald Family Dairy, Dean and Rachel Bramstedt, Larry Pringnitz Jr., and Thomas & Tammy Andersen. Times Printing Co. Inc. will mark its 95th anniversary of operation on Wednesday, May 1. The family-owned business began in 1918. Jack Scholler, president of Times Printing, says, "This anniversary is very special to our family, but especially to my dad, Ray Scholler, who has been here the entire 95 years to see the company grow from a weekly community newspaper to one of the top 100 printers in the country." The Van Horn Automotive Group recently donated a Dodge RAM truck to Habitat for Humanity Lakeside. Habitat is a nonprofit organization that works to improve substandard housing. The group has built more than 300,000 homes in 90 countries, providing homes to 1.5 million people. The local chapter has built 33 homes and operates a ReStore in Sheboygan. "Habitat for Humanity is a great organization that provides families a decent and affordable place to live," said Teresa Van Horn, Owner of Joe Van Horn Chevrolet in Plymouth. The Job Seekers Networking group will meet three times in May. The University of Wisconsin system is under fire from both parties in the state Legislature after a Legislative Fiscal Bureau report showed it had $650 million in reserve - including $414 million in tuition reserves - despite annual tuition increases of more than 5 percent.

Area companies nominated for military support awards
<![CDATA[ARLINGTON, Va. -- Almost 60 Wisconsin companies are nominated for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award by Wisconsin Guard and Reserve members, including several in the Green Bay area. Area nominees include HC Miller Co. in Green Bay, Schneider National in Ashwaubenon, Air Wisconsin Airlines Corp. and Fox Valley Animal Referral Center in Appleton, according to Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The Freedom Award is the Department of Defense's highest recognition for employers supporting employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Up to 15 award recipients will be announced this summer and honored in Washington, D.C., later this year at the 18th annual Freedom Award ceremony.
