Winter weather has held a firm grip on this area since the last issue of The Express was published. A series of storms have crossed the area with freezing rain, ice accumulation and snow.
Travel has been difficult since Friday and a number of activities have been canceled or delayed. Several churches did not hold services Sunday.
And the possibility of more snow is in the forecast for Friday and Friday night.
At Superior precipitation from the storm series is approximatley an inch. Most of that has come as freezing rain. The first storm brought the most snow but the least moisture. City of Superior workers bladed and hauled snow from the down area Friday following the first storm. Subsequent snowfall amounts have not required such work. Read more

National recognition: Madeline G. Schuman has been named a semifinalist in the 44th annual Achievement Scholarship competition.
Semifinalists are some 1,600 high school seniors nationwide who scored the highest on national qualifying tests taken during their junior year. They are now eligible to continue in the competition to advance to the finalist level and be awarded scholarships.
The National Achievement Program, conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, recognizes promising black students throughout the country. Read more
