I live in redondo beach, I voted against the measure to tax the
utility.....why....its just another instance where government officials
cant live with a budget......we need to control city officials and
prevent them from spending what we dont have.....

I live in Redondo and voted for UU. I want the powerplant out of there. AES made a good case for superfluous spending - I happen to agree with them. I could have made an even better case looking at all we farm out to consultants - especially on projects the residents don't want - like a mall in our harbor. And their is the constant bleeding to the Performing Arts Center. Aspel's attempt to defend the buying of a BBQ grill was laughable - he'd have been better off ignoring it.
I think Aspel actually hurt the cause when he tied "park people" to the "no" on UU effort. First, it was untrue and alienated many who were for UU and against AES. But secondly, if someone believed his false accusation, many people trust the "park people" more than they trust our Council.
Had Aspel stuck to the issues, he would have hit a more sympathetic chord. I also think the Council recently ignoring hundreds of resident who want to vote on the harbor upzoning revitalized the rift between the Council and its residents. They are in denial that this crowd was a "vocal minority". They also are the one's who care enough to vote on local matters.
The City needs to start respecting the residents rather than ignoring them. Then they will find a much easier path to accomplishing their agenda.

I will never understand how people like yourself want to get rid of tax revenue, jobs and needed electricity.

The electricity produced at AES does not supply electricity to residents in the South Bay.

Actually, we have excess power now. I am not against business. But, this powerplant is a polluting, fish killing, eyesore. The systems are so old they are failing and they cannot regulate their own pressure without the relief valve popping waking up everyone within a half mile. Have you ever been in the harbor when the relief valve pops. You cannot carry on a conversation. I am not sure how they get away with voiolating the City's noise statute. The plant spews rust onto boats in the harbor. It's old, ugly, dangerous, and polluting and needs to go. If AES wants to repower on a quarter of the current footprint with cleaner and greener technology while eliminating their once through cooling, then let's get it done. We do not have to desecrate our coastline and waterfront with powerplants anymore.
What Redondo needs to do is end the conversion of business and industrial property to condos. We have more than enough condos. Condos cost the city money more money than they produce. We should have converted the Ruston Lane industrial site into an office center for Aerospace professionals instead of the 200+ condos that were built. The plans for a transit center should include business office space, not hgh density condos. These offices would generate business for surrounding retail and restaurant businesses. It would provide a place for Redondo professionals to work in Redondo - currently 83% of Redondo residents must commute out of Redondo to work.
I'm not anti-business. I am anti-polluting, eyesore. Perhaps those that love the powerplant should be forced to live next to it.

Unbelievable that UU did not pass. AES a good neighbor, stakeholder? Plant been improved, made more compatible to the community? Electricity prices for RB residents would have gone up? Don't think so.
