Shrewsbury man charged in two sexual assault cases involving minors

A 30-year-old Shrewsbury man allegedly fondled an 8-year-old girl while at a party in Red Lion on Aug. 22, and is also charged with rape of a second, unconscious 13-year-old female, after police say he slept in the same bed as her later that night. Winston Johnson, of the 200 block of West Forrest Avenue, faces 9 felony counts in both cases, including statutory sexual assault, rape by forcible compulsion and corruption of minors, according to charging documents.

SHREWSBURY, Pa. York Area Regional Police arrest Winston Johnson, 30, of Shrewsbury, for the alleged rape and sexual assault of two minor girls, ages13 and 8. The assaults allegedly took place during August and September of this year at two separate locations in Red Lion Borough.

Organizers of Shrewsbury Fall Fest in the Village hope you'll attend the event 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 4. The Fall Fest takes place on North Main Street, West Forrest Avenue and the rear property of the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company where there is plenty of free parking. While this event promotes the businesses that line the downtown historic area, some outside vendors are welcome.

Police commission votes to part ways with Red Lion

If there is an emergency in Red Lion, York County, the York Area Regional Police Department responds, but that will change beginning next year. The police commission passed a resolution last night to end service to Red Lion by the end of this year, leaving emergency response up to the Pennsylvania State Police as of January 1st.

At its meeting Thursday, the commission decided it will not offer a new contract to the borough when the current contract expires at the end of the year. The borough and the commission have been negotiating for several months about police coverage for Red Lion.

Police say trio cashed stolen checks

Three people who allegedly acted together to steal checks from a Red Lion man, sign them in his name and cash them at banks in York, are facing several counts each of felony forgery charges, police said. York Area Regional Police say David Thomas, 36, of 5th Avenue in York, stole eight checks from the home of Harry Meiser, Jr. throughout the month of January, according to charging documents.

Sharing manpower, equipment and other expenses - while eliminating a wasteful duplication of services - helps save tax dollars that can be spent on other important needs, like road maintenance and sewer lines.
