Certainly a fair percentage of it. Where does the stealing end? It's happening all over the place, even by trusted "nice" people who live next door. From the picture of her, it looks like she spent most of the money on food.

Soccer club treasurer waives hearing in Montco theft case
Maryann Grant was, at one point, an inspiration to David Burkhart. "She's very friendly, very outgoing," said Burkhart, vice president of Valley Soccer Club in Montgomery County.

Regardless of her weight, she completely betrayed and manipulated people, she should face the consequences of her actions, whether its jail time, or community service. I beleive Jail would be helpful.

She will not have to pay the entire amount back. We all have seen that movie too many times. They will come to an agreement that will require her to pay about 1/3 of the debt back and be put on probation for 2 years. And I am sure sooner or later some anal person will come up with a new program. It will be called Theft Management Classes. These things go on in just about every organization. Like I said when this first came out. I knew a guy and his wife in Moore Twsp who were running the in house baseball program a few years back and were stealing all of the candy money. The organization never did a darn thing about it. Pathetic as it sounds, it is true.

That is exactly what I was going to say, what a pig. |

I feel bad for her child. He will be forever known as "the kid whose mom stole funds from the soccer team." Geeez, people just don't think how their actions will impact their child.

As someone who has had a lot of experience with not only youth sports organizations, but also school parent organizations, it pays to have methods in place to protect the monies. I never wanted to have cash in my posession that was not accounted for by others in the organization. That is just way too easy to cause problems. Plus, if you do have access to cash like that, without accountability for it, you can be accused and not be able to prove you are innocent. Either way, it is a bad situation. I insisted that other officers sit with me and count cash, writing it down in a ledger so that later on, everything balances out. Now, if someone is going to be blatant, like this woman, and use a debit card in the organization name, prosecution is the only answer. She needs to be made an example of.

I feel sorry for her son also! He will pay the price unfortunatley not her. As for her, GET A JOB! Or if she already has one, get another one and keep her hands off the soccer money!

And when she gets her probation, make sure she doesn't get a job as a cashier. Of course Lower Macungie Twp is looking for some help with their $2,500,000.

funny, i have always suspected my daughters' youth organizations president and treasurer of pocketing money. the books are not kept properly. I have been told that the treasurer has "her own system"......hummmmm what do we think that is. I know for a fact that the people in charge of the concession stand where stealing, but unfortunetly no charges were filed. This woman needs to be made an example of. It's not like she borrowed a few dollars and planned on putting it back, she STOLE 70,000 dollars. She made it a second career! shame on her, I feel bad for her kid.

I agree, but it would not surprise me if she just gets probation. When people get a slap on the wrist it does not deter others from doing it. |

I am an active member of Valley Soccer Club, and have been for many years. I am well acquainted with all involved, as well as with Maryann Grant. My sons have played soccer with her son for several years. The comments being posted about her weight are unconscionable. Would her actions be more acceptable to you if she were thin? I hope the outcome of the case is just, and that all of the money missing is repaid. More importantly, I hope this doesn't negatively impact the soccer program any more than it already has. The people who say they feel for her son are only hurting him more by posting such awful things about his mom. No kid wants to think badly of his mom, whether or not she deserves it.

I agree with you! |

Loose some weight, fatty! |

Oh please Valley Soccer Mom, why are you so offended by the truth? The comments about her weight are not "unconscionable", they're just plain true. She should not only be ashamed of being a big fat glutton, but how dare she steal over $70,000 from those kids!? I hope she does jail time, she definately deserves it!!!

I remember an old saying I heard a long time ago: Never trust a fat person - they obviously have no self discipline. This woman helps to reinforce that old saying.

It will be impossible for her to make restitution if she is sitting in jail.
