RAYTOWN, Mo. - About 9,000 students in the Raytown School District were off from school on Monday.

Usually a child porn conviction is enough to lock down a defendant’s creep-factor credentials.But Cole A. Larson of Raytown took it up a notch.On Monday, a Kansas City federal judge sentenced Larson, 31, on Monday to seven years in prison for attempting to receive child porn over the Internet.

All 18 schools in the Raytown School District will be closed Monday due to an outbreak of flu-like symptoms among students and staff.The district will begin Saturday to disinfect all school buildings and buses, said spokeswoman Cathy Allie,Allie said the number of absences escalated steadily since Tuesday at all schools.

The problemThis sounds like one for Encyclopedia Brown, the boy detective in a series of books beloved by the grade-school set.
