County supervisors decline pay increase; slash recommended raises for other elected officials
The Jasper County Compensation Board met last month and had recommended raises for all the county elected officials, including 4 percent for the county attorney and county sheriff, 3 percent for the supervisors and a $2,000 stipend for the board chairman.

Prairie City break-in leads to burglary charges
A Newton man is facing second-degree burglary and assault charges today after a weekend break-in of a house in Prairie City ending with the alleged assailant leaving the residence with a broken arm and laceration to the head.
