A fundraiser scheduled for Saturday is aimed at helping a soldier with the 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion who was shot in the head last year in Afghanistan.

Back in 1995, what was left of the once humming Potosi Brewery Co. was in danger of becoming a tumbled-down pile of bricks, mortar and rotten beams.

Theresa Kaminski, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, is the author of "Citizen of Empire," a story about Wisconsin native Ethel Thomas Herold, whose sense of patriotic duty took her from her small town of Potosi to the Philippines to teach in the '20s.
