Boy, 15, pleads guilty to murder rather than risk life sentence
A 15-year-old opted to plead guilty to murder and a host of other charges Monday instead of rolling the dice and facing a potential life term.
The boy was just 14 when he was charged as a principal in the robbery and murder of 50-year-old Errol Laguerre last summer. Although the teen maintains that the deadliest weapon he possessed the night in question was a cell phone, he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder as well as robbery with a firearm and attempted robbery with a firearm. Circuit Judge Jorge Labarga sentenced him to 10 years in prison followed by 15 years of probation.
