Allen Harral said he heard someone banging on the front door of his Port St. Lucie home Monday night. The man then started banging on the windows and put his foot through one of them, Harral Fearing for his life and his family, Harra said he hit the man over the head with a piece of wood.

A 32-year-old father is charged with child cruelty for paddling his son with a piece of wood that left bruises, according to police reports. Anthony Spade, 32, of the 1200 block of Southeast Nancy Lane, was arrested Friday after a Florida Department of Children and Families investigation led to police getting involved.
