July 9, 1959 Mrs. Loula Lucas, 86, turned the first spade of dirt in the ground breaking ceremony for the new sanctuary of the First Methodist Church Monday morning at 9:30 on the site for the new sanctuary adjacent to the church building on East Washington Street.
