the letters handed out to employees concerning the closing of the company may be the low pay scale tactic/scare tactic/forced out tactic used for ridding the company of those who are at the top of the pay scale....that tactic works well for company's who wish to stay in business but want to pay as little as possible for labor (the desire of ALL companies)...
...what may happen is there'll be a meeting (which probably has already happened) about the company's future and it was be decided that the company can stay in business if overhead is reduced significantly, wage is always the top of the list, then an option may be presented to employees for volunteer wage and all perks/benefits reduction (meaning an employ will accept a lower wage and continue working (but that has it's cost too, meaning no overtime, less hours, little or no vacation. Now the company will show that they can employee more people but still pay a low wage, it looks good on paper...so don't be surprised if many who are laid off don't return and many new hires will be working at lower wages (scabs) and the company stays open and does well... it's really a forced out tactic that works! Good Luck to all who thought they were on their way to retirement...I'm sure all of the wages have been reviewed and this is the beginning of a forever change to the way Darling operates...it was just a matter of

Good deal. Unions are killing this country. I would rather have a job at 12 an hour than no job at 15. Let's do it.

it's not unions that kill jobs it's selfish low lifes that shop at the nearest supercentre dept and buy all Chinese imported junk....I admit that thousands have abused the unions benefits but they had little to do with why America has decided to enter into the global market. May you who sit back and bitch about not having a job should go to college and educate yourselves before pointing finger and name calling.
Just sit back and be proud of your lower wage job if you are one of the unfortunate souls who are stuck at L.A Darling.
It's very easy to blame someone else but that does nothing to hide the fact that more than likely it is the low productivity of the workforce and poor management in that company that has brought forth this unnecessary change. It appears you know everything and should probably save that company before it keels over.
I remember visiting that company a couple years ago and what I witnessed was very pathetic. I documented unorganized supervision. poor worker communication and significant shipping delays which resulted in a parking lot full of semi's waiting to load.
Go ahead and blame everyone but the employees and the administartion there....that's easy!
I know what is going to happen....I do wish you luck in the future...meanwhile don't waste your time off shopping at Walmart....make plans to educate yourself and focus on a new career, Jim Bob!

The other day I looked at the labels on my shirts as I was hanging them up. Not one was made in the USA. I think it would be hard to find very many products made here.

for 40 plus years China has been the supplier of our goods....now days China pretty much supplies everything to the U.S and may other countries. Americans flock the the super center stores to give away their hard earned dollars. I admit that the wally stores, fam and general dollr stores have good prices but they are the major avenues that allow the cheap merchandise to enter our homes.
It's almost impossible to get Americans to join and fight together on anything nowdays. There's always those who live in denial or fear and sit back, complain and do nothing but block the path for progress of the people. I mean just look at the name calling concerning politics...it's either one side or another....Congress spends more time arguing and name calling that the real objective to problems become overshadowed....it's a sad but inevitable breakdwon that damages the fiber this country was found by.
Right now progress for the political system and the industrial/ technology machine is gaining momentum at a pheonominal rate and is running over the people of America all because the people only think they're involved by voting. It takes much more effort than that to get recognized as a determined concerned citizen. Get together as a group, use social media like Facebook, Myspace, etc to spread the word. But you'll find there are more who rather sit back, eat snacks or shop rather than do anything constructive.
Remember the days when citizens joined arms to stop the factories from bullying the laborers around.
If people would stop supporting, not shopping much at the major Chinese importer supercenters and others like the supercenters and voice their concern over the lack of U.S made products by speaking directly to the stores managers, there may be an obvious change....it could go one way or another but nobody knows until it's done.
There have been times when laborers have joined sides with companies and formed one unit to produce fine products that workers were very proud of, such as the Harley company, by working together they brought the company out of financial ruin.
The economy has also eaten the profits of many companies that survived hard toimes before and this economical slowdown is only going to get worse, possibly like nothing ever documented....the recipe for disaster is here, there and everywhere
it's time now to get involved and work together to search for a solution and that may be in the form of wage reduction or a cut in benefits temporarily. Everyone should spend a couple hours a day thinking of ideas for new products....talk to the companiy about openeing up an on location outlet to sell prodeucts....use the internet to sell products....do something!
there is a solution somewhere to help save jobs....I'd think it'd be a great idea for the administration to approach the workers often to search for solutions to many problems....maybe they are doing that now but I doubt it based on what I'd seen when I visited the Paragould plant a couple years ago. It was obvious then that disaster was in the mix and the employees knew it, even joked about it....funny now, right?

Typical liar!
China has Not been supplying anything for 40 years!
Get a grip on life and quit whining!
The Unions have broken and destroyed Chrysler and General Motors , They are doing their best to destroy the middle class with Government employee unions that allow teachers in Wisconsin to make twice of what the average citizen makes.
Unions kill jobs , except for the crooked politicians they support.
If you want to keep jobs in the USA then unions need to be curbed .

Typical immaturity as displayed in your title!
You are very right, there hasn't been ANY Chinese imports to this country until the day you found out about your job loss.....
Absolutely astonishing how ignorant some people are!...Maybe it's best you stay stuck there jobless....be sure to go to your local supercenter and shop yourself silly.....and try not to buy anything there that is American made, k?
I wouldn't want you on my team or fighting a war next to me....because calling names and not fighting for a purpose only gets people killed!
You sound like a chump, what are you?

I agree....stomp out the UNION....that concept worked well in the Civil War it should work well again don't you think?
I mean it's obvious that to get things done is to do it alone and not joing arms with friends, family and co-workers!
workers unions shouldn't make it mandatory to pay dues.....unions should make increasing pay their top priority.....a good union (oxymoron) would take pride in seeing that safety and treatment of employees were adhered to but now day the U.S Gov has created braches (OSHA) and implemented penalties for such workplace and product safety(UL)breaches...so unions are really not necessary but that doesn't an that ALL employees shouldn't stick together to voice their opinion in the workplace.

The fact is that none of my shirts came from these stores. Most are golf polos and hunting shirts (I'm retired). They are not cheap shirts but they were still made in several different eastern countries. Just a bigger profit margin, I guess.

The real truth is.....there's little anyone can do now to change much anything, you can vote but doing so only creates a job for another being who could care whether you live or die!....it's best to try enjoying what quality of life we all have left rather than bicker among ourselves over things we cannot change.....the political machine is now a hungry beast that will not stop at anything to continue growing and gaining power......money is power and power is food for the system......when money begins to run slow and profits dwindle the political beast begins to thrash out and seek comfort anywhere it can even if it means destroying it's own citizens to survive (cutting social programs and taxing).....that is the world we live in so sit back and enjoy what you can.....but at least support your right to bear arms and freedom of religion if nothing else.
Good Luck and best wishes to those whose jobs are in jeapordy!
