After 79 years of service, a new, $21 million neighbor moved in next door. And now the historic Albert Gallatin Memorial Bridge will be imploded.

Dozens of residents from both sides of the river gathered in Fayette County Thursday to witness the ribbon cutting of the new $21 million Point Marion Bridge that joins Fayette and Greene counties.

A new link between Fayette and Greene counties is set to open Thursday. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on the new Point Marion Bridge at 10 a.m. The structure carries Route 88 over the Monongahela River.

The new Point Marion Bridge, to the right, was dedicated yesterday. It is adjacent to the 79-year-old Albert Gallatin Bridge that is being retired.
