This mother is and has been one of my mothers best friends scince they where in high school(20-30yrs). I grew up with Shannon as my as aunt and Shane and TyTy as my cousins. As much as every one wants to point a finger and be the judge of whose fault it is. The facts are my aunt has lost 2 of her children. As a parent now of a beautiful 2 year old little girl named caliana. i can only imagine what she go's through every day. And i guess if you dont have children you could never understand or even began to process the love your child fills you with, or the strengh your child gives you when you want to give up. I love you aunt Shannon and remember Shane and TyTy are always with you they where and always will be mommas boys. Know they want you to be strong and smile for them! thanks to all of you with supportive words. we miss the boys every day......

First and foremost, I find your ignorance astonishing. I take no issue with "pointing a finger" at someone who was driving recklessly at 80mph! The article states your beloved
'TyTy' injured a woman while driving drunk (and unlicensed and underage) and Shane was involved in an accident THE DAY BEFORE Donovan killed him. The woman who was injured by 'TyTy' was definitely someones "Caliana" and possibly someones mother or sister, etc. At the time of the article Donovan had 4 moving violations in the county. Think long & hard about whether you or your precious Caliana would have been passengers in 'TyTy' or Shane's vehicles... and if you would have allowed that, then CPS should pay you a visit. I can only hope that if Caliana were to drive as recklessly and irresponsibly as your "cousins" did, you would hold her accountable as your "aunt" failed to do with her own children. Driving is a privilege, not an entitlement.

I am so sorry for this loss. I am a firm believer that our legal driving age is way too young. I think kids should be able to drink and smoke at 18 and drive at 21. Why on earth do we give them the keys to kill themselves and innocent people?
You really want to be driving your kids around until they are 21? Do you have no life? And then how do they get jobs and get to those jobs?
When the employer asks do you have reliable transportation...oh my mom could drive me? I laugh at you

Honestly do you know these people? Who are you to give advice? You have no idea what we all had to go through. Why don't you think about what your saying and if your friend died this way how you would feel about it. How could you talk like this about someone you know nothing about? Just what a reporter said we all know reporters don't tell you the whole story.

I admire the mother for trying to look at the mistakes she made and her children made. She is as I see it trying to send a mention of prevention and not trying to excuse the teens behavior. I don't understand why some people write that parents do not have any power. I have four adult children and they made mistakes but they also were made accountable for them and I wanted to have them see what they learned from those mistakes . Make mistakes and clean it up was the mantra.
I also worked in substance abuse counseling and the thing missing from the young peoples lives was structure and tough love.
My heart goes out to the mother and I think it so courageous of her to share her pain and what she has learned. I salute her honesty! I hear you also Josh

hey i live in the soquel mountiains and went to school with some of these kids and grew up with them. i have seen it all with drunk drivers on this road since i have been living up here since b4 the earthquake in 89. accidents happen and people will learn from them and i have and i know the boy is learning about it as we speak. i just hope all of his friends learn about this b4 something really bad happens again to them. drunk teens arent the only ones driving up around here. i see adults that are belligerent drunks driving around all the time. so i think as whole are community needs to come together and work on this and teach our youth on how to take care of one another when driving on these mountain roads. i stop at least once every winter to help someone with there accident on the wet roads. so be supportive of santa cruz county youth bc they are the future.
If we really have to rely on the youth of Santa Cruz County for our future, then we are all doomed!

Daily Horoscope for November 8

Pisces

The Moon travels through Leo and your sixth house of health today, reminding you to take better care of yourself. Ironically, it seems you must spend most of your time taking care of others. Make a toast to your health today... acknowledge the fact that if you don't take good care of yourself, you won't be of much service to others.
