City man arrested after allegedly attempting to strangle wife

Oh my god. This is so sad.

How sick of him to dohat to his wife even more so with there two children present.Hopefully someone in bchc gives him what he deserves! Julie can make it through s made it through everything else.

I absolutely agree with you. I was just a little shocked at the article, how he would give that much detailed information about what he did to his wife, especially with his children around. It really is disgusting and disturbing. All I could think was oh my god.

Very sad situation. This man needs to go to jail, but on the flip side of that he also needs to be in some sort of institution for mental issues. He is one sick human being that needs help and just putting him in jail isn't going to change things, he is going to need the mental help as well.

I hold the Transcript at fault for using the names of the 2 children. Arent there laws to protect children from things like this in the media. The story would have been the same even if the paper left out the names of the young girls.

I'm a friend of Julies' and when I found out bout what had happened, I sat down and cryed because i've known her since my sister and her were in headstart together, so needless to say shes like a second little sister to me....i'm completely devasted and disgusted by what has happened...how could he have done such a cowardly act....I hope he pays dearly for the pain an anguish he has caused.

Mr Cohen has his first case for the new law firm. This article is irresponsible. Says she was dead than alive than mentions the names of the kids.

my feeling is that people who do these horrible crimes never really pay the price. No amount of punishment will ever equal what the family is going through. I think maybe they are incapable of feeling. I hope I am wrong and he suffers everyday for the rest of his life.
Of course criminals now have more rights that victims, so he could end up with a reduced sentence because of his mental state. I hope not. He should be in jail for life!

Julie was has been on of my best frinends for a long time we have nown each other since we were 3 yrs old..... this is a sad and sick twisted thing that has happend to her. Hopefully she makes it out ok. if not there are gonna be alot of sad and hurt ppl. And Eugean better pray to god they dont let this be a open trial were ppl can defend her cause that court house will be full of ppl... who admits to the police almost killing here wife and then pleade not guilty...... thats sick. my prayers and thoughts are with julie and her to beautiful girls... and as for him i really hope he gets whats coming to him! and much more~

At least Mr Cohen is defending Eugene, the mayor, and the alledged murderer. These people need his help. Glad he did not retire but decided to start a new law firm. Hope he keeps helping people until he reaches 70.

Years ago I knew Eugene very well and I was an aquaintence of Julie's. I'm not by any means defending what Eugene did, but back when I knew him, he wasn't a bad guy. He had a lot of problems both physically and mentally and Julie was no peach either. I don't know the people they have become and I don't condone any type of abuse. I'm just sorry it had to end up this way, and it's a shame those 2 girls are going to lose their father over a very stupid decison on his part. I do pray for Julie and that she has a fast and speedy recovery so she can be there for her girls. As for Eugene, he will get what's coming to him and I do hope the Transcript keeps updates on the story, as it's the only way I'll know what's going on.

I cannot believe that this paper (or any others for that matter) feel it is their business to publish names and such disturbing details about stories such as these! Why was it necessary to mention the names of the victim and the children? Also, why was it necessary to mention that the victim had been "dead"? Everyone who contributed to the publishing of this article should be ashamed of themselves! And this is not the first time something as disrespectful as this was published...recall the report of the accident that claimed Marty Chittenden's life this past spring (specifically the "sunglasses")? Maybe it's time to make the articles a little more classy and give respect where it is due! I can't imagine that anyone who contributed to this article would want this kind of information published about him or her, I certainly wouldn't!

I have known Julie since she was very little. I also have known Euguen for a very long time as well. I never thought he could do something like this, but then looking back at his past and the reason he moved here from NJ, and what his home life was like, one can only imagine the demons he is battleing. Julie didn't deserve this and neither did the children. I believe he knew what he was doing, but I don't think he realized what it would mean to everyone else. I don't think he fully thought beyond the point of harming Julie. I hope that he gets what is coming to him and I pray that Julie makes it through with as little damage as possible.
My thoughts and prays go out to both Julies' family as well as his. Neither asked for this to be brought on the families and yet both are suffering.

So many people criticize The Transcript for not including pertinent information. Then when it does, everyone's outraged. The "bad guy" here is Mr. Shade, not the Transcript. Also, face it, even if the names of the wife and children were omitted, everyone in town knows who they are. I empathize with the wife and children, but blaming the Transcript is, to put it kindly, misguided.

I don't understand why someone would applaud Mr. Cohen under this article. This story is tragic and very sad & it's not a posting place to generate publicity for a new law firm. Eugene needs help and I hope he gets it but I also hope the judicial system punishes him as he should be to the full extent of the law.
