Horse and rider attacked by pitbull in Oceano Dune trails

A pit bull attacks a horse in Oceano Dunes. The horse's owner said she and two of her friends were horseback riding on the beach trail in Oceano when a gray pitbull attacked. "It's a very big safety concern because that dog was off leash." The horse is expected to recover, but its owner is concerned about rabies and hopes the dog's owner will come forward and turn himself into Animal Control. Dogs off leash are a big problem at the Oceano Dunes area, especially on the horse trails at the back of the beach, where many times homeless people sleep and drug addicts hide to do drugs and they like to have these types of aggressive watch dogs. It's also a difficult area for rangers to patrol. Please call the Oceano Dunes District Office at (805) 773-7170 or the Ranger Station at (805) 473-7220 for suggestions on how to keep our riding trails safe.
