Possible layoffs in the South Wasco County Head Start program would close the three-days-per-week classes that are the only preschool available for 3- to 4-year-olds in Maupin, Wamic, Tygh Valley, Pine Hollow and parts of Dufur.

For the third time this year, Wasco County is set to give its blessing to a newly restructured rural emergency services plan - this one in Tygh Valley.

For the last 21 years, Fern Wilcox of the OSU Extension Service has been this community's "go-to" gal for help in financial literacy, bankruptcy, food preservation, parenting, care-giving, healthy living, and other aspects of family life.

After a yearlong process, Pine Hollow residents now have their own local ambulance service and won't have to rely on a long-distance response from Maupin.
