Tribe may try to putcasino in Park City
“There hasn't been any discussion on Park City. That's not to say somewhere down the line we may consider it.”
The federal Bureau of Indian Affairs is considering acquiring 11 acres in Park City for gambling purposes, it said in a letter to Sedgwick County commissioners.
The land, south of the closed Wichita Greyhound Park, has been owned by the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma since 1992. If it is to be used for gambling, it must be placed in a trust, with ownership transferred to the bureau.
Billy Friend, second chief of the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma, said the tribe has no immediate plans to develop gambling in Park City. In the past, it has discussed developing the site into a truck stop. Read more

Sod houses still exist -- find out where
A talk about the sod houses of Kansas will be given March 25 at Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston.
Jacki Blaesi-Freed of Topeka will give the talk on the houses, built of thickly rooted prairie grass and used by Europeans who settled the Plains in the 1800s. Freed will give a history of sod houses in Kansas and identify where the structures remain.
The lecture will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Dyck Arboretum Visitor Center. The cost is $2 for the talk, and $5 more for a soup supper served at 6 p.m. Call 620-327-8127 by March 24 to make a reservation for the supper. Books about sod houses will be for sale in the gift shop. Read more
