13 charged in mortgage-fraud ring

Thirteen people were indicted today in connection with a $9 million mortgage -fraud scheme involving central Ohio properties.

The system is ripe for the picking if your intent is to defraud it. The real problem is this is treated as a "victomless" crime and the punishemets do not fit the deed. Fines, loss of Real Estate and appriasal licences, and minimal jail time (mostly probation and public service hours) are all that are applied. Most of the time the funds are never recovered and the mortgage holders end up eating the loss, reposessing the properties, and Joe six-pack has to suck it up and live next door to a dilapilated crack house until the next round of get rich quick scammers come along. There is no fix in sight!

This is a disgrace and to know one of the accused is a federal gov't employee. How did this activity get pass the security background check that has fired people for far less than this.
