What great news! I doubt that 1/2 of Barbour County even has internet access. Time and effort should be concentrating on jobs. But this is the same group who is more interested in social networking and not too worried about all the empty store fronts and a declining population. It will be a nice way for them to announce chili festivals and parking meter decorating contests.

That wasn't necessary. I live in NC now and I talk to several people in Philippi via the internet. I lived in Century and went to school in Philippi from ninth grade thru the eleventh. I have the Barbour Democrat mailed to me and I think this new website is a great idea.

It's not the web site it's the attitude. Philippi like other small towns is slowly turning into a bedroom community. There are no jobs, no tax base and the population continues to decline. I too went to school there and left years ago. I always considered it home but it's sad to look around and see what,s happening to a once prosperous and beautiful town

You are so right, the current leadership at the city of Philippi is poor. They are known as the "girls" to all the locals. They are more interested in planning social events and attending conferences where shopping is the main attraction. The whole city office is pretty much a joke.

Well, I love that little town and don't like to hear anything bad said about it but I do get where you are coming from. I went to the old PHS thru June of 1962. Were you there at that time?
I would love to see some money invested and things spruced up a bit but not changed too much. LOL If I ever hit the lottery big time I will donate money to help do whatever they need to. A few of my best friends still live there. Thanks for your input.

I would love to see Philippi get a boost and be able to revitalize downtown. Elkins keeps building new hotels and they have the music theater there and ..... Bob Evans! LOL I'll keep hoping something good happens for Philippi.

I agree, I still live there and it sucks. Nothing is done to promote business. Just drive down main street and look at the empty buildings and welfare bums hanging off of the parking meters. Residents have fought off every opportunity to have any growth and they are now left with a dirty run down town.

So sorry to hear that. I remember when going to town was such fun. Saturdays, you would see so many people shopping and having lunch. And Saturday night...whoopee! LOL Seriously...everyone went to the Youth Center and the movies and it was great. I guess I'll have to hold on to those memories. Why the town would reject ideas to revitalize it is beyond me. I hope they wake up before it's too late.

They won't, there have been offers but it's against the nature of our local leaders to do anything new or try to get new business. One of the other people on here posted about local officials promoting decorating contests and social events, sadly it's true. Their days are spent planning useless events while businesses close at an alarming rate.

I understand what your concerns are but in this high tech age we are currently living in, it takes an internet presence to get noticed. Any business owner who is considering opening in a city and a lot of people who are considering moving to a new area will be looking on the internet for information. So I think an updated webpage is good. It helps to promote the city to attract others. Yes maybe other changes need to be made too but this will help draw new business and people to the area.

I saw another big ad in the Barbour D about some silly decorating contest. Who pays for those ads? Our wonderful city leaders tried to shove a 45% rate increase down our throats too but the state stepped in and said NO WAY. The leadership in Barbour County is totally out of touch. Oh well, we can decorate parking meters while people leave the county and businesses close in record numbers.

Well, maybe they are decorating for the holidays. As for businesses closing it's happening here too and all over the country. It will hit those small towns much harder though. I guess it's a sign of the times. Sad but true. Philippi has a special place in my heart. So many memories and I'm thankful for that. I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving.
