The public was introduced Saturday evening May 19 to Madison County's cultural and heritage sites, and to the observance of the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War with a series of concerts leading up to the 20th Annual Peterboro Civil War Weekend on June 9 and 10.

Anyone who wants to find out more about the background of the Holstein cattle breed and its connection to Madison County should come to the third annual Holstein Heritage event at 2 p.m. June 3, at the Smithfield Community Center, 5255 Pleasant Valley Road in Peterboro.

In 1862, the United States was in the second year of its Civil War, and Peterboro citizens prepared for service in that war.

The Stewards for the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark in Peterboro will host a pancake breakfast Saturday, April 28, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Copper Turret, 17 W. Main St., Morrisville.
