A 31-year-old Sumrall man died in Stone County early Friday while travelling with friends to the Gulfport Dragway for the Mississippi Coast Memorial Day Blowout.

Officials say a 19-year-old teenager from Stone County has died in a single-car accident.

Temperatures near 90 degrees have the crowd building gradually at the Gulfport Music Fest today and every shady space claimed by fans of all ages listening to the bands.

Grant Lowery Hickman, 19, of Perkinston, died in the accident that happened about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Wire Road, just east of Parker Road, Coroner Wayne Flurry said.

Investigators, with citizens' help, have identified two more burglary rings operating around Canal, Robinson and Landon roads, Sheriff's Maj.

Twenty-three murals - some painted, some made of mosaic tiles - are located around the county and tell the stories of the area's ecosystem, people, notable landmarks and industries.

A project dreamed up about eight years ago to tell the stories of Stone County's history through art was recently recognized by the state Legislature as Stone County was named Mississippi's official mural county.
