Yes - Something needs to be done. But we also need to remind ourselves that we shouldn't put ourselves in harms way....Just because you have a cell phone shouldn't make you feel 'safe"..Use Your Common Sense. NEVER take a ride from a stranger....a slip of judgment and she was gone.

This is NOT an attack on this unfortunate woman, but a reminder to others.....

God works in mysterious ways. To give any justice to Melissa, support this bill with all you have. On the day she was abducted, the killer let Melissa use his cell phone to call her mother. Twice. It was because of this strange twist that the murderer was able to be identified and apprehended.

It sickens me to think that a person could be convicted of 2nd degree murder and be set free after serving 15 years in prison. Given that your average murderer is 25 years old, let them serve an equivalent of their lifetime. 25 years.

If the killer is 17, let him serve 17 years. If the killer is 30, let him serve 30 years.

That's one of the biggest problems in this country. Our laws have too many loopholes that allow this type of stuff to happen. There is no fear to commit further crimes in this country because these criminals know they will get either probation or a very short sentence. Maybe they should just get rid of career criminals. That would send a message and also free up space in an already over crowded prison system.

The premise is weak, "repeat offenders" is a cop out. We need harsher penalties for all offendes implemented. The MA gun law is a joke. MBTA drivers and car drivers hurting people on cell phones is a joke. As long as the sheeple are placated with simple words, there are not fixes.
