Two injured after falling from scaffold

Two men were rushed to the hospital after falling from a scaffold while working on a home in Pawleys Island. The accident happened around noon Tuesday at a home on Natures View Circle, off of Crooked Oak Drive, according to Midway Fire Rescue Chief Doug Eggiman.

When Derek Metzler, 35, of Pawleys Island, graduated from Benjamin Logan High School in Belefontaine, Ohio, he considered joining the Marine Corps, but went into fire service instead. He had lived in the South Strand area before going to Florida, so he and his wife, Lajla, moved back here and he applied at fire stations here.

Outreach offers gifts for children overseas

Mike Fields, director of missions for Pawleys Island Community Church, said he is excited that his church is one of many in the South Strand working to pack gift boxes for needy children overseas for Operation Christmas Child. 'Pawleys Island Community Church is a mission-oriented church and this is one of the easiest outreaches we can do,' Fields said.

Police Blotter: Smokin' pot with dad

A North Carolina woman called Georgetown police Aug. 28 and reported her 15-year-old son had been smoking marijuana with his 38-year-old father. She said her son stayed with his dad in the City of Georgetown for two weeks in July, which is when the pot smoking reportedly took place.
