Whoever the poster was (First Hand Knowledge) who posted on June 08 2008 on the "Former
GJ" forum your prediction was precise: "The truth is that a town meeting will do the citizens
absolutely no good. The purpose is to smooth over the public and attempt to gain their trust so
that the talk and accusations will stop. They want it (us) to go away, nothing more, nothing less.
Do you really think they are going to present themselves as having wronged any of the citizens?
Do you really think they are going to tell you what you want to hear? No. They are going to, as
usual, try to convince you that they have done no wrong and that they are working for the
benefit of the citizens. There will be no resolutions to the problems. I say, let them meet with
themselves as I am sure they will show up in numbers." So, First Hand Knowledge, in case you did not have the honor of attending, just know that your prediction came to pass EXACTLY
as predicted. Impressive that you knew all this before it even happened. You were right on!

Whoever the poster was (What's the Point) who
posted on June 10 2008 your prediction was precise
as well: "So we can all go to the meeting but it'll be the same rhetoric and the victims can't
even defend themselves. PPD knows this! It's the
beginning of a smear campaign to discredit the
victims. Knock yourself out Chief. This is Our
Town and you can't have it." Right on as well!

Your post dated June 11 2008: "We know why things
are handled the way they are. And we know what is
currently being done. Irresponsible has been your
response to complaints expressed by citizens. Some
have even circumvented the chain of command and
gone to the Town Manager and the result was, they
were literally laughed at..The Point of These
Issues: Having a badge and a gun does not give you
a power or right to bully or abuse the citizens.
Don't forget your promise to protect and serve."

Hope you are recovering rapidly from your recent
injury. Since you've been waiting for the "Fly on
Da Wall" to answer your question since Fri July 4
it's a shame you weren't able to attend the forum
as he and his wife "Peaches" may have been able to
answer your question. They were sitting in the back row of the auditorium. Would have asked for you but as you would understand would have been far too awkward and out of place. Get better Dear!

Headlines should read - PPD, DA and city council were successful in shutting down all oppositions to their position in police training, excessive force and any other concerns the citizens had. It seams as if they had seeded throughout their assembly opposing voices to any who would try to voice their concerns.
All of these elected officials need to remember elections are coming; their position and seats are all up for grabs. There are many good defense attorneys who would love to be the new DA of Butte County. Paradise has great citizens who will make great city council members. It’s a NEW DAY IN PARADISE!

If you don't like the current police dept. heads just fire them. Remember they all work for you. Complain to the FBI they just love this stuff. The FBI can't wait to investigate police depts. for brutality. Everyone start carrying camcorders and record all the infractions and bullying you see. It's not against the law to do that it has been recognized by the courts as a right of assembly and right of free speech. They (the police) are all wrong and the citizens of Paradise are right.

The question directed to the city council was:
"Have any of you contacted any of the complainants
concerning use of force by the local police
department or any of the witnesses of the incidents?" After a noticeable hesitance councilman Steve "Woody" Culleton answered, "No,
I have not." Then he proceeded to state it was not
his job and how his phone number is in the phone
book and if anyone wants to call him they can.
Then he claimed that no one had contacted him
either. That was an outright lie. Baltierra
reminded him that in fact he had been contacted
and that they had spoken at length on a past
telephone conversation. Although he did admit
remembering that conversation he publicly
questioned Baltierra asking, "Are you one of the
complainants?" to which she answered, "Yes I am."

After "Woody's" statements councilwoman Frankie
Rutledge responded separately to the question
repeating the same sentiment of "Woody" stating
that it is not their jobs and then proceeded to
offer an explanation. Baltierra pointedly brought
it to her attention that she was not answering the
question and that it was a simple "yes" or "no"
question at which point Baltierra had to repeat
the question to the council to simply get the
question answered, the final answer being "NO".

MISS — A forum to discuss allegations of excessive force by Paradise police didn't come off as billed.

The forum, in the works for more than a month, instead turned into a laudatory discussion about the police response to the fires and the ridge's drug problem.

When the mother of one of the alleged victims of excessive force rose to ask questions, she was soon stifled by the town attorney, who spouted the well-worn line about not discussing pending litigation. So what was the point of the forum?

You
know, the citizens willingly came to their
meeting in response to their invitation in hopes
that "just maybe" resolutions could be reached on
the persistent problems going on for at least the
past 2 years over the lack of public trust in the
local police department and the town officials who
are supposed to hold the department accountable.
Even though the citizens knew it would be
uncomfortable and that they wouldn't exactly
receive a round of applause, they went anyway. And
what do THEY do? THEY publicly engage in a smooth talking colloquy over how proud THEY are of THEIR
impeccable department and of the leadership of the
town who would NEVER allow any wrong in the dept.
THEY proceed to convince the public of THEIR
integrity and infallibility using flattery and
presentations to support THEIR side of the story.
The only side of the story they refuse to listen to is anyone who does not support their argument,
which just so happens to be several concerned
citizens in Paradise who prefer to look at the
evidence rather than believe what they say just
because they say it. These are the "shunned" ones!

If anything came about all this was the people who were complaining about the law enforcement problems seem to have valid points as the meeting proved that. I hope they try again.. I would like to attend and get some answers myself. How do we make this happen - this time for the Paradise Residents.

If there are no problems (thats impossible) in the Paradise Police force.. why are so many citizens so fed up with them - and if there are no problems.. why did they "offer a meeting with everything out on the table" I think there needs to be a good "house cleaning". We want police officers with integrity not bullies and someones neighbor and so forth. Paradise sounds like its moving backwards. This town used to be known for being racist and for lots of meth users.. no jobs..Lets get our town back on track. We have good hard working people and families here and the Paradise Police and town officials should represent us in a respectable light.

The point was to bring the citizenry
into subjection by brainwashing them into believing that the town's government and it's local police department is beyond scrutiny, to
discredit anyone who dares believe otherwise, and
to educate the masses of their role of compliance
in the future where non-compliers will not be
tolerated and will be subject to public censure!

If you will recall, it was the public majority that started making comments that they felt the questioning from E.B. was inappropriate for that venue and they didn't want to hear it. Did you ever think that maybe the meeting was not for just YOU and that maybe the majority of the Paradise citizens WANTED to hear about the subject matter that was presented and DIDN'T want to hear from a minority who have issues with the department?

In other words, Jaime O'Neill stole the show. The big controversy in town right now centers on O'Neill's Obama bumper sticker and his childish claim that a CHP officer didn't make nice with him when he wrote a ticket. Once again O'Neill's ego got top billing and the real problem lost traction.

It was clear not too far into
the meeting that it was anything but an "open
forum". All questions were openly "embraced" until
the few "general" questions were asked. Not one of
the questions were connected to any specific case.
The first question related to the town council's
role in verifying the claims of the department it
so wholeheartedly endorses. The CCOP took great
measure to seek legal counsel on whether it's
questions infringed on any of the pending cases
still in litigation and received a stamp of
approval on it's questions prior to presenting them to the forum. Even District Attorney Mike
Ramsey made it a point to express to journalist
Elizabeth from the Paradise Post that the
questions should have been allowed to be asked and
that they were valid questions worthy of being
answered without creating a conflict of interest
with the Chief, the Town, or their attorney. The
questions got shut down because of people like
you who cannot handle anything but praise of the
department you so blindly and adamantly adore!

The MAJORITY you speak of was
no doubt a PLANNED MAJORITY. The CCOP knew that it
would be outnumbered even before stepping foot
into the Town Council Hall where citizens of
Paradise are supposed to receive EQUAL treatment
regardless of their race, religion, affiliations
or political views. But it was obvious that this
is not true to reality. The only ones "embraced"
by the Chief and his admirers were those who
applauded his views. Anyone else who did not agree
was "not embraced" but rather treated with
PREJUDICE and BIAS and in essence, publicly told to SHUT UP by the very community members the CCOP has strived so courageously to defend. With the
MINOR exception of Sgt Hegenbart, Sgt Rusche, and
Officer Rob Nichols the CCOP was openly discredited and treated with disdain. If that puts
the CCOP in the MINORITY with the few honorable
officers of the department, then it considers itself honored to be "embraced" by such fine
fellow public servants of the community!

Does not one citizen matter to you? One citizen matters to me. So, we are still communicating aren't we, over your precious police department that Carrigan and Rough say can do no wrong ever. Give me a break.....oh, no, I didn't say that, your do no wrong cops do break things don't they!
