Canadian school president Ken King, who faces Plainview's state Rep. Jim Landtroop in the July 31 runoff in Texas House District 88, received a morale boost Wednesday.

Attorney Christi Craddick and state Rep. Warren Chisum will head to a July runoff in the Republican race for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, which has nothing to do with trains but regulates oil and gas exploration statewide.

It is not record-setting amounts but state Rep. Charles Perry received two additional campaign contributions in the final days before Tuesday's Democratic and Republican primaries.

When it comes to fundraising, from the very start of the Republican race for the open seat in the Texas Railroad Commission, the battle has been between Austin attorney Christi Craddick and retiring state Rep.

The competitive Republican race in the drastically redrawn Texas House District 88 is going down to the wire for three of the four candidates, at least moneywise.

It was started in honor of Shelby Kennedy, a 23-year-old who died in 2005 of cancer.

Of all the 150 Texas House of Representatives seats being contested this year, the District 88 Republican Party primary is considered one of the most competitive and crucial to the balance of power in Austin.
